Departure Day (Houston to Amarillo) day 1

We started out at 6:30 this morning. I was surprised we got out of the house so early. The drive to Dallas was super quick. We arrived in Dallas before 9:30. David drives very fast!

Napping shortly after we got out of Huntsville. Looks like Daniel is going to have a sore neck when he wakes up.

The kids enjoyed hanging out in a different part of the van:-)

Daniel took a picture of us when we stopped for a quick snack.

Here is my speeding ticket! 74 in a 60. Can you say Defensive Driving Class online?

This is the friendly Fort Worth Police officer that gave me my speeding ticket. Oh well, David is enjoying the opportunity to rub it in, he usually gets the tickets not me.

We decided to stop in Fort Worth at the Stockyard Exchange. The do a Longhorn Cattle Drive through he streets everyday at 11:30. There were 16 heads of cattle - 1 for every ten years the stockyard has been in operation. (Facts courtesy of Daniel!)

We can see cows at home any time but not up close like this!

I couldn't believe how many people were lining the streets for the cattle drive. We were right across the street from a parking lot so Daniel and I went over to scope out the licence plates. We got a total of 5 in that lot. Our count for today is 26 out of 50 states - I think!

Emily had the best view of all.

Waiting for the cows to come home...

PICTURE MISSING - TOO TIRED TO ADD IT NOW!

Our picnic lunch at the road side park was great - not too hot in the shade. Texas has some great Visitor's Centers with playgrounds, wireless connections, clean restroom and AC!!!! We'll be stopping at some of those tomorrow.
The ride from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls wasn't too bad but the ride from there to Amarillo was sooooo long. 600 miles in one day is a lot.
Daniel smiling and enjoying the ride.

After a quick dinner we jumped into our bathing suits and ran down to the pool. The pool was freezing so we stayed for a quick second and then head back up stairs for baths and bed.

Tomorrow we head for Colorado. We will be going through Albuquerque so I hope we will get some beautiful pictures.
